Weird Dream

18 Sep

During my 11 hours of sleep (was sleeping 3-5 hours for the past week), a strange dream occurred. I was in a room full of men, some are random people I know. We were all eating in a long table. Suddenly two of them, both high school friends of mine, stood up and announce they had lost their wallets. The 1st one said he will reward $65 million to the person who can find it. The 2nd one offered a thousand dollars for his. I looked under my place in the table and a wallet was taped underneath it and the other one was taped under my seat . So I gave it the owners and said I would just be happy to accept half of his reward ($32.5 million). After that, we all went home. The other guys went to their cars and I rode a jeepney. In it was three scary looking guys. After a while, I just got off the jeep because I could feel they are about to mug me. On the roadside, are two people I know from work. They were waiting for a jeep too. After some small talk, a jeep with the route “Mangkal” (matina + bangkal?) arrived and two of us got in, the third one lives to the North it seems. And the dream ended with me and this other guy going home in the jeep sharing an awkward silence.

Dreams, what nonsense.

Headphones Battle – Brand New vs Arctic Monkeys

31 Aug

Two albums, winner goes into my playlist and the other deleted.

1. Brand new’s “Daisy” - the purveyors of the quietLOUD formula is back. It all sounds a bit formulaic now, the heavy lazy drums, the closed chords, and the plucking on top. The dual vocal play I used to enjoy in their past tracks are noticeably less prominent. The album opens with a sound clip of a “Sound of music” like woman singing, followed by a screamo track which is a very annoying way to open an album. I am now devoid of any angry and negative emotions now and these kinds of album that feed off of that are not just that appealing anymore. There are a total of 3 sound samplings (the woman singing, an announcer and a small one in ‘In A Jar”)  throughout the album which is 3 too many! Its not bad though, standout tracks are ‘Gasoline’, ‘In A Jar’, and ‘Noro’.  2 / 5

2. Arctic monkeys ‘ Humbug - After blitzkrieg-like two albums, the monkeys are shifting into urban warfare with deeper, darker punk songs. Delightfully, its all now sounding more unique in this point of time. The incisive observational lyrics, the fast tempo and the unpredictable twisting and turning of the melodies are now given more weight and volume. Gems are ‘My propeller’, ‘Crying Lightning’, and ‘Cornerstone’. One track that is a huge miss is ‘Dangerous Animals’ where the monkeys shows us they can spell words really well. As usual, the drummer is ace as punk pounding is concerned, the vocals are now a little more explorative in range and playful guitars are back and in full force. 4/5

Daisy deleted, Humbug in my headphones.
